The North West Interstitial Lung Disease Specialist Unit at the Wythenshawe Hospital is dedicated to the diagnosis and management of Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) of which IPF is the commonest. We have a wealth of experience in the assessment, diagnosis, management and treatment of patients with the following ILDs:
- Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF)
- Non-specific interstitial pneumonitis (NSIP)
- Hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP)
- Sarcoidosis
- Connective tissue disease associated lung disease
- Vasculitis associated lung disease
- Langerhan’s cell histiocytosis
- Drug-induced lung disease
- Cryptogenic organising pneumonia (COP)
We have dedicated clinical, nursing and research staff who provide the highest standard of care for our patients with ILD. The north west of England has the highest prevalence of ILD in the country and we diagnose, review and manage patients from the local area, from within the North West region and from further afield. We aim to excel in the care we provide, and ensure that Wythenshawe's ILD services are at the forefront of national and international standards set for ILD. At Wythenshawe we manage patients at all stages of ILD from those newly diagnosed, to those in clinical trials and those with more advanced disease requiring lung transplantation. We have close connections with the lung transplant unit as Prof Leonard works both in the ILD and transplant unit.
We have a dedicated specialist multi-disciplinary team who ensure an accurate diagnostic and management pathway for our patients.
